Quaderns Magazine Proposal

Joint proposal dpr-barcelonaradarqundo for the direction of Quaderns magazine, held by Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya. Design A Spectacular Machine.

Proposed Editorial Line Description

The main goal of Quaderns will be to restore the necessary dialogue between architecture and society and to strengthen international presence of architectural practice occurring in Catalonia. The challenge we propose to COAC is to use Quaderns as a node to concentrate the emerging forms of architecture in Catalonia and connect them with the rest of the world. Our vision will cover a wide range of architecture manifestations that includes the built environment, theory, criticism and architectural research, new media and the creative potential at Academia and citizen practices that affect the urban space. Quaderns will serve as a deposit-emitter [a pulsar] of realities, theories, ideas and even utopias, to spread what investigation and practice of architecture means today. This node will reflect the dynamics of real life, which leads to explore other disciplines as new areas of architectural practice.

To achieve this we propose an innovative interaction between print and digital tools (blog + networks + mobile platforms), allowing a flow of information going beyond the limits of a conventional publication.

Quaderns will enrich current architecture language of creation, sharing and communication. Taking into account the necessary integration of digital and traditional media in content sharing, our goal is to become key reference within the circuit of publications that understand that architecture, today more than ever, transcends conventional notions and connects transversely with other branches of natural sciences and humanities; giving a new meaning to the practice of the profession, enhanced by the acceleration imprinted by new media information tools.

Our proposal is built on the experience that networking doesn’t only means having a website or blog to “promote content” and that weaving a network of contacts and interaction goes beyond the mere presence on social networks. Our proposal is based on an exchange of knowledge that follows a different logic from conventional structures, because it is based on trust and deal between equals.

The team proposed for Quaderns board meets the experience to guide the magazine in this new scenario. They are of people used to daily networking, with experience in innovative publishing platforms to share contents and organizing events in the local context but connected with “other” realities.

DHUB Sessions

This is a set of images I did as a campaign for a cycle of conferences organized by Design Hub Barcelona over different themes related with their ongoing exhibitions. The images where projected on the screens of the museum and inserted in the newsletter. The images present a variation of the graphic theme originally thought for “Laboratori de la Fabricació

Laboratori de Fabricació

Laboratori de Fabricació is an ongoing exhibition hosted at Disseny Hub Barcelona, which started a month ago and will change its face many times till may of 2011.

Laboratori de Fabricació presents an analysis of the new 3D digital fabrication technologies that are leading to radical changes in design and production processes.

The expo is hosting an active digital fabrication laboratory, named DHUB FAB, which is a derivation of the original Fab Lab, and many other parallel activities.

The design process for the graphic suite of this exhibition started from a classical icon of the industrial design process: the production chain. This basic object assumes strange behaviors and evolves in the different applications on various graphic supports: it turns, it twists, it moves upside down, becoming a vague abstract representation of what it meant originally and reflecting the problems of industrial production in the era of digital fabrication.

In this post you can see how it all looked at the beginning

Here is what remains at the end of the whole design journey:

Academic 5 – We have always lived in the castle

“We have always lived in the castle” is the project for a magazine which wants to be a source of inspiration for creative minds. The work was made together with Rita Lino

Here are few pictures

Academic 4 – Laboratori de Fabricació

These are few images from my final project for the Postgraduate in graphic design applied to communication I did from october 2009 to february 2010 in Barcelona. The project was selected to be realized and you can actually see the applications at Disseny Hub Barcelona. Another post will follow with the images of the printed works.

Academic 3 – My Facebook Galaxy

This is an attempt to describe through a diagram the universe of relationship that one keeps through his/her facebook profile. The project is a collaboration with Rita Lino and was made with the supervision of Bestiario

Academic 2 – /bɒmˈbæs.tɪk/

This is my work on a campaign for a virtual typography exhibition. The work tries to mix the quality of typography expressed by the richness of the unusual glyphs with the funny name assigned to the exhibition. Phots by Alberto Sinigaglia. Please click on the images to take a look closer or either look for them in my flickr
